This one is probably one of my best maps - it's a pretty old one already, I made it back in the days when I was strictly working with the original 1.3d textures (even though I added a few textures from the notorious 'Duke It Out In DC' episode this time around), but for once this doesn't make the level feel any poorer at all - it actually gives it a style and feel that's closer to those of the original levels by 3D Realms, with a lot more detailing thrown in. There is a lot of cool spritework everywhere (my first serious attempts at it), nothing feels empty, and that office building where you start and those sewers are probably some of the coolest things I've ever built. The supermarket looks solid too, and you even have an underground 'high-tech-themed' base to explore so it's all good when it comes to variety. Basically the back story (which results in a storyline you have to follow throughout your play) is that you get an e-mail from your boss (General Hayes) who gives you the mission to prevent the aliens from getting their hands on the new explosive the Earth Defense Forces were working on in their secret underground labs located under the supermarket accross the street. He will keep sending you e-mails throughout the whole level, unfortunately you will be too slow to prevent the aliens from getting their hands on the new weapon so you will end up having to kill them all and nuke the supermarket. I meant to come up with the most stupid and absurd storyline ever for a Duke map - I think I succeeded. Basically this is a giant, long key-run coupled with a mission you have to complete, you will have to look around for some switches as well... Be sure to check your e-mails regularly too. Gameplay-wise plenty of monsters are to be encountered, a bunch of goodies to be picked up as well which makes for some epic firefights in open places such as the parking lots or the supermarket, and narrower indoor locations such as warehouses and much more. The map has some puzzles too but they're pretty straightforward for the most part. Hope you enjoy !
